Hole-in-heart kids need your help

The following news is picked from The Malay Mail, dated October 06, 2006,

with the hope to get more help to Nur Amanina Ismail and Lee Yew Kuang.

AT first sight, Nur Amanina Ismail, two, and Lee Yew Kuang, nine, may look like normal kids but their thin frames suggest otherwise. Both are suffering from hole-in-the-heart conditions and urgently require corrective surgery.

However, their parents cannot afford the cost.

Nur Amanina suffers from ventricular septal defect, causing her lung to get infected easily.

Amanina’s father, Ismail Mat, 31, is a supervisor at UMW Toyota, earning RM1,630 a month while her mother Zunaidah Taib, 31, is a housewife.

The toddler was treated for lung infection at Selangor Medical Centre before she was referred to Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre for the operation, which costs RM26,000.

UMW Toyota has pledged RM13,000 and Amanina needs to look for the balance.

Lee suffers from pulmonary atresia, a condition where the blood vessels to his lungs are blocked.

Lee’s father, Lee Tian Seong, 45, is a chicken-rice stall helper in Bukit Beruang, earning RM1,000 a month, while his wife Tan Kwee Lim, 38, is a housewife.

The boy has had two operations since birth but needs to undergo conduit surgery where a human graft or tissue is used to cover the hole in his heart.

As the conduit has to be brought in from Britain, the cost of the operation is between RM40,000 and RM50,000.

Donors should send their cheques, made payable to The Malay Mail with the patient’s name written on the reverse side, to The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

The above news is scanned from The Malay Mail, dated August 25, 2006,

with the hope to get more help to Nur Irdina.

His father, S. Maniam, 48, earns RM1,500 a month as a taxi driver while his mother, S. Yogeswari, 27, is a housewife. They have another son, Sritharan, aged three.

The couple from Puchong said they hardly have any savings and are unable to pay the cost of Rishitaran’s operation.

Donors can make a cheque payable to The Malay Mail, with ‘Rishitaran Maniam’ written on the reverse side and address it to: The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

Please reach out for Jing Ren

The following news is picked from The Malay Mail, dated October 22, 2005,

with the hope to get more help to Jing Ren.

He has always been an active and playful child, but two-year-old Wong Jing Ren is now bedridden after being burnt in a freak accident at a relative’s house last month.

His mother, Yap Choon Loong, 32, is appealing to the public to help pay for her only child’s hospital bills which come up to about RM30,000 a week.

Jing Ren, who suffered 90 per cent burns, is warded at the Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre in Ampang, and is expected to be treated there for three to five months.

Yap said the accident happened on Sept 27 at her uncle’s place in Ampang here where she left him before going to work.

“We do not know what actually caused the fire. My uncle, who earns a living by gluing shoes, was working while his wife and three children were relaxing and playing with my son,” said Yap who works in a logistics company.

“They were all in the living room when the fire broke out. The house, however, was not burnt down.”

Yap, whose husband is a welder, said the company she works for will foot RM30,000 for the first week’s bills.

Donations by cheque can be sent to The Malay Mail with Jing Ren’s name written on the reverse side. It should be addressed to: The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
